Hacksaw does love a bit of death and destruction, and out of the sandy abyss comes this chap with his scythe and a menacing look on his face. Presumably, he was mummified at some point and he doesn't seem to be happy with where he's ended up. Let's see just how much horror and excitement he can add to this creation.
Your 19 paylines give you wins with three, four, or five matching symbols. The low payers will only return your bet at best, but the high paying ones are worth up to 10x.
The wild scarab multipliers will substitute for other regular payers, and when one of these lands on the grid, you see the multiplier value applied to all wins that it takes part in. More than one of these symbols can land and add together, and the multipliers are worth up to 200x.
As a little plus, it triggers a respin and the wild stays in place to help any new wins. If a new wild lands, then another respin occurs.
There's also a chance that a firestorm can take place during one of these respins and randomly increase your multiplier values by up to 100x. There are other storms to look forward to, namely sandstorms, and if one of these takes place during a respin, then all of your wild multipliers are nudged onto one reel. Once this has happened, new symbols will land and you should hopefully pick up some big wins.
You can get eight free spins by landing 3FS scatter symbols at the same time throughout the base game. The idea continues, but you get an increased chance of landing the wild multipliers. With four scatter symbols, you get 10 free spins, and the benefit here is that wild multipliers are persistent and stay where they are unless they get nudged by a sandstorm.

Regular wins aren't going to impress you or your bankroll very often, unless you get those important scarab multipliers arriving from time to time. Hopefully, they'll turn up more often than not. My standard wins were barely able to help my balance break even, and this continued for quite some time until I made it to the bonus game. I did see some big wins, and just about managed to end my session slightly below where I started. The max win is 10,000x, but it feels like a long, hard slog through this deadly desert to reach it.
You could question why there is an undead mummy looking to slice people apart in this desert, but what would be the point? Sometimes you have to go with it and let the creators run wild! I quite like the red glowing eyes of this chap and the imagery is quite sharp, but ultimately the story is lacking a bit of context. The soundtrack is a little too predictable, and this would have been one area where the developer might have created a bit of atmosphere. Either way, you can play on your mobile and any other compatible device.
Neither I nor my balance particularly enjoyed our time with Sand and Ashes! The base game wins were very underwhelming, and the general gameplay was lacking some obvious modifications. A wild multiplier is a nice addition, but it wasn't able to carry the show on its own. The free spins bonus might produce something decent if you have enough patience and a large enough bankroll, but I didn't want to stick around for too long after finishing my assessment.
