Who knows where these ideas come from, but somebody over at Kitsune has delivered a mixture of maths and magic with this latest idea. Presumably, the chap to the right of the game area is called Max and he intends to wow us with his knowledge.
There are 243 chances to land a win, and that's thanks to matching symbols landing on adjacent reels. It all begins on the left-hand reel and makes its way across to the right. The highest combos are only worth up to 2x, but there are chances to improve those figures.
Firstly, each spin has a reel multiplier displayed above the reels, and a symbol gets highlighted on the game area below. These are called the catalyst zones, and you have five of them available with a spin. When a win occurs, winning symbols that land within the catalyst zone will increase the multiplier above the reels.
The free spins bonus requires 3 scatter symbols to begin the adventure, and you get eight free spins. All multipliers begin at 1x but a catalyst zone is present on each wheel per spin, and winning symbols that land within the zone will increase the multiplier. The reel multipliers will not reset during your spins.
4 scatter symbols will also deliver 8 free spins, but you get an additional benefit with reel multipliers beginning at 2x. 5 Scatter symbols get you all of the above and a 3x multiplier start point. Outside the UK, the basic bonus round will cost 100x.

Everybody will have their eyes firmly fixed on those catalyst zones because they're the only way you're going to boost those multipliers and improve any future wins. It's good that they move around from spin to spin, but the benefit of a more static affair is obvious during the bonus round as the multipliers refuse to reset. 10,000x is the max win here if you can grab a strong enough run of winning spins.
The animations are slightly strange, especially when you consider the movements of Max the Mathmagician to the right-hand side. It all feels a little unnatural, but I suppose it should really!
