What does Hacksaw have up its sleeve for us today with this flashback to a simpler time that's blended with something quite disturbing? You have to see it to believe it, and hopefully it'll produce some big wins while you check it out.
A standard win requires 6 or more matching symbols to hit the grid at the same time and the highest payout at this point is 100x. There are other special symbols to consider and ways to improve your payouts.
For example, when a Wicked Grin or Epic Wicked Grin symbol finds its way to the bottom row, it expands and transforms all symbols into coins or multipliers. The coins are worth up to 500x, and the multipliers can improve those by up to 20x. Epic symbols will trigger all the other Wicked Grin symbols and make them expand from where they are.
You'll be looking out for the spreading FS symbols and the super variety that can land on the bottom row and expand to cover the grid. Each position that it covers will represent a number of free spins, and this is how many you get as the bonus game begins.
You can play up to 30 spins and above each reel is a stash of multipliers that begins at x1. The Wicked Grin symbols expand and allow the coin values to be multiplied by the stash figure, and this also forces it to increase for future wins.
If you land the super scatter symbol, then you get a coin collector above each reel, and the Wicked Grin symbols will save the coins in the collector until the end of the bonus. The multipliers will change those coin values to improve the final payout.
If a Wicked Grin or Epic symbol lands on the bottom row, it expands and everything it covers will turn into a coin or a multiplier. There are bronze, silver, gold and diamond coins that offer values worth between 1x and 500x, and the multipliers are worth between 2x and 20x to improve those coin benefits.
It only takes 1 free spins scatter symbol or a super scatter symbol to trigger the game. This is because they expand to cover the row, and as they move, they add a number of free spins to the adjacent places. The basic version allows for multipliers to be collected above the reels, and the super version will save the coin values and improve them with the multipliers.
You might not see the win potential in this game immediately due to the slightly confusing nature of the grin coins. However, it doesn't take long to see what they're doing once they start landing – remember that they aren't any good to you until they make it to the bottom row. Only then are you likely to be in for a big win, and don't forget that the top payout is worth 10,000x.
There's something disturbing about the design, and almost hypnotic, but it still looks good for some reason. The main character is quite horrible to focus on and the swirling background does its best to pull you into a trance. I love the soundtrack and it plays well on a mobile phone screen too.
This isn't what I was expecting from Hacksaw at this stage, but it's always nice when a developer surprises you. There are some good ideas going on in Wicked Grin, but you need those symbols to make it to the bottom row to offer any entertainment or payout potential. For me, it just didn't happen, and I had to purchase some spins that guaranteed their appearance. Once I did this, I began to get the whole concept and how huge wins can suddenly appear.
