In The Library, there were Stackways, over 100,000 ways to win a prize and a max win of 10,000x. Things seem incredibly similar in this remake, but surely there must be something different about it. From what I can see, it has something to do with a booster symbol.
Your standard wins are worth up to 3x, and this is exactly the same as they were in the first offering. You need matching symbols to land on adjacent reels to pick up a prize.
To increase the number of win ways, you have some Stackways symbols, and these will cover the reel in paying symbols. You get up to 10 of them per reel, and the regular ones offer up to 4 symbols, but the revealing ones will get you up to 10.
It is possible to boost the number of symbols per reel up to a maximum of 20, but the booster can only increase this by up to 10, so you'll need the top value revealing stackways to land and combine with that booster to get the full 20 per reel.
As with the first game, there are 2 bonus games, and they follow the same rules with 3 scatter symbols triggering the most basic option. You get 2 randomly assigned symbols to be your special symbols, and in the more advanced game, you get a notable addition. Here, special symbol expansions will not reset the minimum stackways, and any increases gained will remain persistent.
These symbols will give you up to four of the same symbols in the same place, and if you land a revealing one, you get up to 10 symbols. This will help increase the number of winways and hopefully improve your chances of landing a payout.
The first free spins bonus comes in return for 3 scatter symbols, and you'll now get 2 special symbols that can also act as stackways. If they land on 3 or more reels simultaneously, then you get the extra benefits. The advanced spins will ensure that stackways increases remain persistent throughout.
Slight adjustments to the bonus games could potentially bring you better wins, but the max 10,000x payout stays the same. It is fairly subtle, but you may find that you enjoy the benefits if you opt for The Library Overdue. I struggled to pick up any big wins in the first game, but thankfully, they seemed a little less aloof in the sequel. Things feel generally a little more modern with a bit more time spent on the final details and small additional elements. This time around, the standard library has been replaced by some sort of trip to the underworld, where the whole plot has become a lot more deadly. Personally, I think it blows the original away, and you can witness this on your mobile phone as well.
In terms of mechanics and win potential, there isn't a huge amount to set The Library Overdue apart from its younger sibling, but the design rethink has definitely boosted this sequel beyond the reach of the first. I think it's clear that you should be opting for part two and have your spins on The Library Overdue.
