Temple of Lunaris Review

It could be time to offer up some sacrificial gold coins to the gods in Temple of Lunaris from Just for the Win. This slot looks destined to take you on a roller coaster ride that might just be as wild as one of its features suggests.

Gameplay & Features

You step up to this 5x4 set of reels knowing that you only have 30 fixed paylines to play with. Wins arrive when you land three, four or five matching symbols and the lowest payers are the royals. From these, you can only expect to see payouts worth up to 2x but the picture symbols will deliver up to 10x.

Wild symbols have the same top value. Wilds are also part of one of the most frequently appearing features, and each time a lunar shard appears, it’s saved at the top of the game area. Once you have three of them, a wild stack begins to emerge. It steps down one row at a time from the top until you eventually cover all bases with a wild. This can happen on any reel and another thing that might happen on any reel is that scarab tokens may land.

These are overlays on some of the high-paying symbols and all of a sudden, they might trigger a go in the jackpot bonus. You simply need to select items that are on display until you have three matching jackpot figures. The Mega prize is worth 5,000x.

Bonus Game

If you like playing for free, then you're not going to have any complaints with an infinite free spins bonus, are you? You may also enter the super bonus game if you can complete the bonus meter at the top of the game area during the base game.

You need three bonus symbols to trigger this feature and everything starts with the 1x multiplier, but increases by 1 with each spin. The wild moon feature is active on reel three at the beginning and each time another one lands, it starts the same stack but from the point where it is not from the top of the screen, and you don't need to wait for three of them to get things moving.

As long as you have at least one wild symbol still on the reels, then they will continue to spin for free. Entering the super bonus game means that the multiplier starts on x5 and as you begin, the wild feature is active on reels two and four.

Lunar Shards

Little sections of moon, or shards if you will, can land on any of the reels and will be collected by the meter above. Nothing happens until you have three of these shards in place and then the reel begins to turn wild. At first, only the top row symbol is wild but this continues to grow until you have an entire stack of wild symbols.

Chamber of Gold

If you'd like to pick up one of the jackpot prizes, then you're going to need a little help from some scarab tokens. These appear on top of some of the other symbols but not all will oblige. These tokens make their way over to the trigger point at the side of the reels and once in a while, the feature will erupt. In the bonus area, you select items until you have revealed three of the same matching jackpot symbols. The top prize is worth 5,000x.

Bonus Game

The bonus game is like a free spins feature but you keep playing indefinitely! Reel three begins the feature full of wild symbols and each time a Luna Wild lands, it will begin to grow from the point where it appears rather than the entire reel. All the while there are wild symbols on the reels, you'll keep spinning. Regular wins made up of the standard game symbols are responsible for your rewards. Each spin increases the win multiplier and if you enter the super bonus, this multiplier begins at 5x.

Win Potential

Even the base game can return some pretty good payouts thanks to those luna shards and the wilds that stretch from them. The hit rate is decent at nearly 30% and it seems like the wild feature helps bring the action to life regularly along with smaller wins. The volatility is high, so that means there should be some occasional huge rewards but you'll need to budget carefully to make sure you don't blast your balance too quickly.

The free spins bonus is a little different in that you can continue to win and play for free, which is always a nice change! Undoubtedly, the biggest value comes from the jackpot prizes and if you can hit the mega jackpot, you'll achieve the game's 5,000x max win.

Design

I did a little research in an attempt to find out if there was indeed a real Temple of Lunaris but unfortunately, I ended up stuck in some kind of geek heaven with people talking about acts and waypoints. I can only assume that this is some form of Dungeons & Dragons story world and it's not one I'm part of. So I can't give you any details about the setting other than it could be a portal to the stars or it might just be a nice dream thought up by someone over at Just for the Win studios. Either way, it looks nice with the Egyptian statues on either side of the reels and the glowing luna meter at the top of the game area. The soundtrack is loud and overbearing at times but that helps to build up tension when you need it most.

Our Verdict

Temple of Lunaris is a rare breed in that it offers its features regularly and doesn't put up too much of a fight. I'm referring specifically to the wild lunar symbol but you might be lucky enough to see the jackpot triggers or infinite free spins game as well. There's enough going on here to get my vote of confidence.
