Sugar Sands seems to be one of those games that is only fun to play when it's paying out. That might sound obvious but other productions will at least give you some entertainment value while you wait for a bigger win to turn up. Regular wins are a slow burn, judging by the paytable, so you've got to be prepared to watch your balance potentially take a bit of a battering for a few minutes.
To pick up a win, you'll need matching symbols to land across this 7x7 grid. The symbols don't line up perfectly and that plays into the zigzag mechanic. Essentially, it is a cluster pays game and you'll need matching symbols to align horizontally or vertically.
The lowest payers are only able to get you up to 7.50x and that's for a group of 15 or more! The highest payers will deliver up to 100x. Most wins are groups of 5/6 symbols and these will struggle to return your base bet.
This is all improved by the hotspot multiplier and each timer winning symbol takes part in a reward, it disappears and a sandy background appears. The multiplier improves to 2x and this continues to grow each time a winning symbol lands on the same spot. Once your winning sequences come to an end, the multiplier returns back to 1x. If things go your way, this kind of math model could produce some big payouts.
There is a regular free spins bonus and a super free spins bonus and you'll find the regular one if you land at least three scatter symbols. You can get up to 30 free spins and the hotspot multipliers will double and continue to grow throughout the bonus round.
Two or more super scatter symbols will get you between 10 and 20 super free spins and now the hotspot multiplier will triple.

The flexible payline structure is very similar to a cluster pays slot, except the symbols aren't aligned so they look more like a zigzag, as advertised by the slot. Essentially though, you need them to land horizontally or vertically next to each other, which is pretty much a cluster pays game!
The multiplier begins to grow on the hotspot, but it is quite difficult to get this moving at times. When the high volatility works in your favour, it can be an incredible sight as your payouts will start to soar. It's a kind of all-or-nothing affair. It is an eclectic jumble of weird elements that you're either going to love or hate. It is bright and attractive in some respects but on the whole, it's not my favourite creation! You might have a lot of love for what you see and you can play on mobile phones as well.
Sugar Sands is quite bold in that it’s trying to slightly modify the cluster pays mechanic and it's also gone for a bit of an Egyptian/sugar fusion. It's always nice to see developers go for something a little different and I have to give them extra points for that! On the whole, it wasn't my cup of tea but I have every reason to believe that this high volatility will kick out some incredible payouts before long.
