With a little help from a Light & Wonder, Ricochet brings us Stairway to Cash. Climb the stairway to riches where, apparently, love, luck and fortune collide. Cupid's charms could be dampened by Lucifer's scheming, but hopefully not for long enough to affect your balance. Expanding wilds, demon cash collect and Cupid's Fortune spins could all end up with a max win worth 16,500x.
Full review continued below ↓In the battle of good versus evil, who will prevail? We're about to find out as we climb the Stairway to Cash. It's already sounding a little bit materialistic for there to be any hope of Cupid spreading his love today. That's fine with me, and as long as hell is full of big wins, I'll take the elevator down!
This slot plays on five reels, and you can win across 20 paylines. The regular prizes come from royal symbols and pictures, with the top payout worth 25x. Wild symbols can substitute for all of the regular payers, and you might find that these add a little extra to your spins.
If you can fill a heart container with coins, you could get four spins with expanding wilds. When they reach the top of the game area, the cash prizes are multiplied and handed out.
The other base game excitement to look forward to is the cash collector, and this happens when a demon lands on the central reel with a pitchfork. They turn into a collector symbol and grab all coins on the top row.
You need a demon and two or more free spin symbols to trigger four free spins, and you see the top row coins showing Cupid values. During the bonus game, you'll see two of the expanding wild symbols, and you can pick up your cash collect prizes as well. Outside the UK, four free spins will cost 50x, 8 free spins will cost 100x, and the top 12 free spins bonus will cost you 150x.
If a demon symbol arrives on the central reel along with a pitchfork, then the cash values at the top of the game area will start to make sense. The demon and the pitchfork now become a collector symbol, and all of the coins at the top are dragged into your balance.
To play for free, you either need to land three scatter symbols or you can take your chances with the Buy Feature button. The basic game starts off with four free spins, and you'll find that two wild symbols arrive and do their expanding thing as you play. You can also pick up extra free spins and see the cash collect feature.
It took me a moment to work out what was going on, and my eyes were constantly distracted by those lovely cash figures scrolling past at the top of the game area. However, you will need to see the wilds reach their way to cash heaven, or see the devil turn up, before you can pick up anything worthwhile. It's a nice concept, and as long as the medium volatility doesn't stand in your way, you could see some results worth up to 16,500x.
Heaven and hell have collided in a few slot creations in the past, and this slot focuses more on the heaven aspect. The wild symbols form a ladder to the hottest areas, where the cash passes gently by waiting to be collected. Adding up the wins during the bonus game could be sped up a little, but that's a minor quibble when you're landing a payout. In general, you've got some purple clouds and a few other heavenly elements to keep you entertained on your mobile phone or any other compatible device.
Stairway to Cash seems like it's going to be a lot more complicated than it really is, and once you see these two modifiers work their magic, you don't need to worry about the mechanic anymore. Simply watch wilds grab prizes at the top of the game area, regular wins fall, and the devil picks up the odd instant payout. It's not the most daring boundary pusher, but it's a bit more interesting than some other slots around at the moment.
