My biggest complaint with most Play’n GO slots is that the max win figure is rarely worth taking seriously, but could that be about to change as we challenge Shark Feast and its 40,000x max win? Only one way to find out!
Loading up Shark Feast presents you with a fairly simple 5x5 grid and a number of aquatic symbols that can land and potentially grab you a prize. You need at least eight matching symbols to pick up a win, and the highest payout available is 4x.
Wild symbols substitute for any of those on the pay table, and after wins are formed, the winning symbols get removed to make way for new ones. Each cleared position then receives an x2 multiplier and this will contribute to any wins performed on the same place. Multipliers can increase up to 2,048x.
Helper symbols can trigger some special effects in the form of bubbles and expansion bubbles. When they land, they reveal a multiplier that's worth up to 8x. The expansion bubble will add a multiplier to all symbols that match the one that gets chomped! When Crunch lands, it clears a 3x3 set of symbols and hands out a multiplier figure.
You need up to five scatter symbols to unlock one of the three bonus games and the good news is that your chomp multipliers are sticky. If you play the jellyfish game, you have seven free spins and you get one upgrade. Four scatter symbols will if you 8 spins and two upgrades, and five scatters get you 10 free spins and three upgrades.
The ultra version of the base game spins will automatically apply some multipliers to the centre of the grid to give you a head start.
There are some special effects waiting for you when the bubble and expansion bubbles land. The basic version will reveal a chomp multiplier that munches on a symbol and dishes out a multiplier worth up to 8x. The expansion version will extend this offer to other matching symbols. Crunch is a hungry shark that clears a 3x3 set of symbols to make way for new ones with multipliers.
3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols will take you off to the free spins bonus where you get 7, 8, or 10 free spins. With the most basic version, you get to pick one ticket to reveal an upgrade, but 4 scatter symbols will give you two picks. The most advanced is all three upgrades active whilst you play. The upgrades are expansion bubbles instead of regular ones, crunch clears a larger grid of symbols, and you can pick up extra free spins.
I'll start with my initial comment about taking this developer's max wins with a pinch of salt, and I've got a stick by what I said. 40,000x is an eye-catching figure but I can't see it happening. What I can imagine though, is some fairly large multipliers building up if you get a good run of spins, and this can equal some handy payouts from time to time. During the base game, I saw a few wins of around 5x or 6x. It took a long time to trigger the bonus game as well, and the result here was 24x.
Crunch is the main character, but he seems to be called Joe, according to his necklace! He's got a couple of gold teeth and he means business when he enters the grid and chomps away at those multipliers. He does so with some slick animation, and this is extended to all other moving parts of the game as well. There's a bit of a cheeky feel to the soundtrack and the bright, bold colours will keep things feeling light-hearted down there in the depths of the ocean while you play on your mobile phone, or other device.
Shark Feast is a pleasant multiplier fest that can bring big wins every so often. You might have to battle for quite some time with the high volatility, though. There is some potential in this grid, and the features may do you a few solid favours to help get you somewhere towards that 40,000x max reward. It's probably worth a few spins just to see if it chucks out a quick, big, one-off win, and it's fairly easy on the eye and ear.
