Pulped The First Cut Review

Landing a payout in over 15,000 ways should appeal to most slot fans, and wild symbols never go amiss. Scatters can take you into the bonus game, and a fruit skewer or two might help improve your balance. Let's get slicing and dicing these summer nibbles and see how our balances feel.

Gameplay & Features

You can grab a win by landing a minimum of three regular symbols across these five reels, and the best payout is worth up to 4x.

Any first cut wild symbol on the reels may activate the chef above the game area, and these will drop down to split symbols and create more ways to win. Symbols can't be split more than once, and you won't be able to chop up those special symbols either.

The fruit bowl can get bigger as you play, and when a fruit skewer is present, you might trigger the jackpot picker. Choose your doors, and once you have three matching symbols, you'll grab a jackpot worth up to 1,250x. Modifiers can multiply jackpots by four, and you may also get a chance to pick a second jackpot.

Bonus Game

Beyond the jackpot bonus, there are also some free spins available, and these are yours when you land between three and five bonus symbols. You get up to 12 free spins, and any of the first cut wild symbols will trigger the chef characters and cause the symbols to split.

Outside the UK, you can buy your way straight into this bonus feature at the cost of 100x.

First Cut Wilds

These symbols can activate the chefs above the reels randomly, and when it happens, They'll drop down to start chopping up adjacent symbols. After they begin to split, you'll see the number of win ways gradually increase with a maximum of 15,120 chances to grab a prize.

Free Spins

Between 3 and 5 bonus symbols will get you up to 12 free spins, and the added benefit here is that all first cut wild symbols will automatically trigger the chef character, and cause the symbols to start splitting and increasing your number of win ways. Outside the UK, players can head straight to this part of the game for 100x.

Win Potential

I managed to pick up some pretty decent base game wins even without seeing any of the features trigger, but they got even better once the chefs got involved! Spitting the symbols improves your chances of grabbing a payout, and I hit over 40x at one point. The volatility isn't drastically high, but you may well get a few lazy spins while you wait for a big prize. Triggering the jackpot picker is the aim for everybody, where you can potentially hit prizes that are multiplied by 4x to create a max win of over 5,000x.

Design

The three chef characters are some strange-looking animals that wait above the reels, and they seem to be quite patient and not particularly interested in slicing up any fruit until the random trigger occurs, thanks to the first cut wild. The fruit skewer symbols form part of the animation as they make their way up to the pot at the top of the grid, and the whole creation is accompanied by a light breeze passing through the plants at this beachside restaurant. There's a fun soundtrack to get you in the holiday mood, and you can play on your mobile phone as well if you'd like to take a few spins on the beach.

Our Verdict

Pulped The First Cut has a lot to offer, but it's one of those games that won't show you anything interesting unless it's in the mood for paying out some cash. Some developers have managed to refine their mechanics by giving constant modifications to the grid, regardless of whether or not you hit a prize, but Light & Wonder doesn't seem to be quite as generous in this respect. That said, the big wins are still lurking, and a few of those jackpot prizes could create a stunning result.
