This kingfisher has been a busy boy! We've already seen him take on pirates in Kingfisher of the Caribbean and soar skywards in Kingfisher Rising with a little help from some cracking eggs. Now, we get to see him take on Egypt! His latest adventure sees him go off in search of a 6,000x win with a little help from some wild symbols and a bonus round with plenty of enhancements.
This 5-reel slot once again offers five eggs at the top of the reels to modify your spins. We've seen this happen before with our friend the kingfisher and it's back to produce more of the same.
Regular wins fall across 20 paylines and royal symbols will produce payouts worth up to 1x. Picture symbols can pay up to 5x and the wild symbols are the most valuable with a 10x reward for a five-of-a-kind. Wins start on the left-hand reel and make their way across to the right as you pick up base game rewards.
As the kingfisher lands on the game area, he flies up to take a look at the egg corresponding to that reel. After pecking at the egg, it may crack open and this means you'll be off to play the bonus round.
With a severe lack of action taking place throughout the base game, let's hope that something more exciting can appear in this bonus round.
It goes by the name of the Kingfisher Bonus and what you have is 10 free spins and the modifier you receive will depend on which egg triggers the game.
As the free spins commence, you'll notice that fish symbols with values worth up to 1,000x are added to the reels and there's also a trail that keeps track of all the kingfisher symbols that land during the feature. For every fourth position on the trail you achieve, you could have a retrigger with another 10 spins.
The first enhancer is a multiplier and this is yours when the kingfisher triggers the game on reel one. It begins at x2 and it grows each time special symbols land. The second enhancement is the adder and x1 is added each time these special + symbols land.
The golden egg feature means that all of the enhancements are active and reel number four produces the spreader, which upgrades each time three fish symbols land. You get additional fish added around the fish that are currently in view.
Finally, you have a respin enhancement and each time a heart symbol lands, you get an extra chance in the feature. The first heart is automatically awarded. If you are unlucky enough to see a spin without landing a fish, a chance is taken away and you get a respin. You don't get any paylines active with this modifier.
Cracking open the eggs will trigger four separate enhancers that accompany your 10 free spins. You can trigger the game with more than one egg and you could see multipliers grow, and extra fish symbols landing.
Trigger the bonus feature with the golden egg and you'll be playing with every enhancer available for the duration. There is no trail or retriggers during this feature and each time a kingfisher is available on the reels, it will collect all new values in view – apart from when the respins are taking place courtesy of the purple egg enhancement.
Despite the small max win of 6,000x, you could still see some pretty decent payouts but you may be waiting a while. The medium volatility tends to make the rewards fairly small and you won't often see anything huge. Regular symbol wins aren't massive either and this could hamper your progress a little. However, if you pick it up at the right time, then you never know when those reel enhancements might trigger something quite splendid for you. I was lucky enough to see a couple of bonus payouts worth over 35x during my time with the kingfisher.
The layout is fairly predictable with five reels and four rows plonked on top of a nice Egyptian background. It's all very stereotypical with the sun going down behind the pyramids and a river running across the front of the game area. We appear to be looking out from quite a pleasant viewpoint and you can make out all these details on iOS and Android mobiles. The soundtrack is quite basic but it does a good enough job to keep you entertained while you hit the spin button.
I'm not sure if Kingfisher of the Sands will prove to be your favourite kingfisher-based slot or even your favourite slot containing any type of bird! There's not much happening during the base game and we've seen all of these bonus game enhancers in exactly the same order from this developer before. It feels like yet another way of presenting some very familiar Games Global features.
