Like for all predators, the food chain gets contorted at some point and adjustments need to be made. You start this bizare encounter with 14 paylines, five reels and four rows. Basic wins are made up of royal symbol combos and those featuring a picture. The lowest payer will reward you with a maximum of 2x, but the highest can get you up to 10x.
The wild symbols will substitute for other regular payers and can also get you 10x for a group of five. The Wilds will feature quite heavily as you attempt to hit the max win in this game, so pay close attention to them.
If a laser shark symbol appears on the reel, it will only show on the bottom row and fire off a laser vertically or diagonally. All the symbols that this laser travels through will turn into wild symbols and some of them could have a multiplier worth up to 200x. Existing wilds get an extra multiplier and if the wild already has a multiplier, then that gets increased.
If the laser hits a force field, then the beam comes right back and hits wild symbols and increases their multiplier figure. It's a simple but effective way to grab some potentially large payouts.
Free spins come in three forms and this is nothing less than we've come to expect from Hacksaw in recent months. The basic version requires three scatter symbols and in return you get 10 free spins plus an increased chance of landing laser sharks.
With four scatter symbols, you also get 10 spins and you now see double lasers! Finally, there is the super version and this not only gives you double lasers but also a guaranteed laser shark with every spin.
You can make each spin during the base game five times more likely to trigger the bonus by paying 3x and it'll cost 100x to see a guaranteed laser shark, which seems a little steep. Outside the UK, 100x will buy the standard free spins game and 250x gets the one with double lasers.
These symbols will only land on the bottom row and as they appear, they fire out a laser and this travels through the grid, converting symbols into wilds. They can add multipliers worth up to 200x and increase existing multipliers for wilds currently on the grid. If they hit a force field, they go back in another direction and add multipliers to the wilds.
You can play free spins with three, four or five scatter symbols. The basic game gets you 10 free spins, as do all others. You have an increased chance of landing the laser sharks and you can add extra spins. The middle game does the same with lasers firing in two directions and the super version provides all of the above with at least one laser shark with every spin.
I noticed a couple of things during this nautical/space-themed adventure and the first was that the base game symbol wins aren’t actually bad when you consider how good the wilds and the multipliers can be when they bring their additional powers. They double up to make quite the team. The second thing was the 100x purchase price for a spin with guaranteed shark lasers. I thought that was incredibly overpriced so I tried it once.
The result was a 418x payout, so I have to eat my words. I don't know why I ever doubt Hacksaw and their ability to throw out a ridiculous win whenever they fancy it and that leads me to believe that the 10,000x max payout will be appearing on the horizon at some point, wherever that may be.
A couple of floating/swimming sharks in an apocalyptic space-themed slot, firing lasers and trying to eat your cash is up there with some of the strangest things I've seen this week. Jaws of Justice comes straight out of a comic book and the geeks among us are going to fall in love with it instantly. It looks terrific on your desktop, mobile and other devices and the soundtrack is an 80s-tastic action tune.
There's not much left to say about Jaws of Justice as I think we've said it all – it's weird and I underestimated it greatly. I think the standout moment was the win potential and if you can fire off enough lasers, then that 10,000x max win does not seem out of the question.
