Will this glory be eternal and unconquered, as the title suggests? Well, that depends on how often the commanders get powered up and the grid alters ever so slightly to improve your payouts. You can also find wild commanders and a whole lot of tumbling going on. The bonus games give you free spins, and it's not only a regular bonus activity that we're looking out for. This one also comes in a super and ultra version.
Grab yourself a win across 25 paylines, and the best you can hope for is a group of five wilds, which pay 40x. The wild commanders will get you up to 25x, and the low-paying symbols will return up to 2x.
The commander symbols are a pretty important part of this game because they can get powered up once three of them are removed via a tumble. This happens when a win takes place and the winning symbols are removed.
After the Commander charges up, it becomes wild and they will stick around while losing a little power as more tumbles take place. They can get powered up twice though, once six commander symbols are removed.
The free spins bonus gives you 10 free plays and a win multiplier. You might enter the regular, super or ultra version of the round. Multipliers start at 1x, 2x and 3x respectively, and that gives you an idea of why you might want to try and land the ultra game. When you collect bonus symbols throughout the feature, you'll pick up extra free spins and the wild commanders and power-ups will reset between each free spin. However, if you make it to the super game, the power-up meter does not reset, and if you get to the ultra game, neither of them will reset.
The commanders can become wild once three of them have been removed via winning symbol tumbles. There's also a second stage to this after six removals. As a wild, they substitute for regular payers and powering them up means that they will stick around for further tumbles and potentially assist your wins.
Three, four or five bonus symbols will get you 10 free spins and the more advanced versions have something special to look forward to. First, there is a multiplier that gets better, depending on the type of bonus game you enter, and there's also an opportunity to see the power-ups and commander symbols refuse to reset if you make it to the super and ultra games.
To make it out of this battle alive, you need those commander symbols to turn up quite regularly and a few wins to remove them at the same time. Unfortunately, that felt like a bridge too far for my session. Eventually, you might find the wild symbols sticking around for a little longer than usual, and if you can make it into the bonus game, then watching them stay throughout the feature is always good news for your balance. It's hard to imagine where the 18,000x max win is coming from, though.
Everyone is poised to take over whatever lies on the other side of this wall – I'm guessing it's some kind of glorious pot of Roman gold that all of these warriors are ready to sling over their shoulder and take back to the motherland. The soundtrack is good enough to accompany the end of any Gladiator movie, and the sound effects are crushing and dramatic. It looks good on mobile phones, and even though the animations are quite basic, they do help bring the game to life.
There is a chance the payouts might grow in Gloria Invicta, but it requires a very specific chain of events. If you're lucky enough to get there at the right time, then you'll see good things happen, but if the high volatility isn't being kind, then not only will the payouts be dismal, but entertainment won’t perk you up either.
