Each time I pick up a Wazdan game, I have the sense of hope that something different is going to happen. Unfortunately, there's a bit of a refusal to move on from what's happening right now and we seem to be stuck in a loop.
The game is littered with trademarked features and I think this developer fears that the rest of the industry is going to try and steal their ideas!
It looks complicated when you first get going but you soon realise that it's quite simple and your first job is to choose your bet amount at the bottom of the game area. Now, you need to decide if you want to play low, medium or high volatility. You also have another decision to make over on the left-hand side of the grid.
There is a Chance Level (yes, this is also trademarked) and you can pay 2x, 5x or 10x your bet amount – the latter will make each spin 12 times more likely to trigger the bonus.
As you begin spending the reels, it becomes very obvious that you aren't winning any prizes! But don't panic, as this is all part of Wazdan's cunning plan! You'll see a flurry of different symbols that all land and seemingly do nothing but there is some method to the madness.
Some symbols will stick and you can take these with you into the bonus game while others simply land and disappear. There are sticky symbols with prizes ranging from 5 to 15x and these are the ones that can head into the bonus area along with any sticky jackpots.
The way to pick up some kind of payout during the base game is to hope that Moving Cash Out turns up. It should go without saying that this also features a trademark.
When one of the symbols land, they'll stick around for up to 15 spins before they even activate. At this point, they are then activated and stick around for yet another 15 spins. I'm sure there's a reason behind this but I just can't figure it out. Any cash or jackpot prizes that land with a moving Cash Out label will be collected and thus making you feel like you are winning something from the base game after all. It's also worth pointing out that these values can be paid out up to 300% of their stated multiplier.
It's all about the respins and some developers like to call it hold & spin while this one prefers the name Hold the Jackpot. The truth is, you aren't just holding the jackpot and any cash symbol will do. There are also mystery symbols that can provide jackpots and cash multipliers. Each time one of these lands, your free spins are renewed and you go again. Jackpots are quite valuable and range between 10x and 1,500x. If you completely fill the grid with 24 special symbols, you walk away with the Grand prize.
With the lack of regular symbols and base game wins, Moving Cash Out comes to your rescue, somewhat. They can appear anywhere on the grid, apart from the central four sectors, and they stick around for up to 15 spins before they activate. Next, they stick around for up to 15 more spins and collect the values of cash and jackpot symbols.
You need four symbols to land on the central four places of the grid to trigger this hold & win respin bonus. Hold the Jackpot is Wazdan's version of a familiar respins feature where any symbols that are stuck to the base game grid will move with you into the bonus and each time you land and a special symbol, the three spins are renewed. Mystery jackpots can reveal big prizes and if you completely fill the 24 places on the grid, you'll grab the grand jackpot.
There is some win potential in the base game thanks to those moving Cash Out labels but I didn't see any wins collected as part of this system in nearly an hour! Triggering the bonus game could be quite simple but if you're going to bet low and choose the low volatility setting, then I'd lay money on the fact that you're not going to get there very quickly.
High volatility naturally means the bonus game will turn up more frequently and you would assume that the prizes will grow bigger. Again, that wasn't the case and I saw very little increase between the returns in the bonus game, regardless of which volatility setting I chose.
As far as the Wild West/gold mining theme goes, there are a few hints thanks to the background and the strange miner/Santa Claus figure that gives you a little ‘ho ho ho’ as you make it into the bonus game. It's a large grid area and looks a little complicated on smaller screens.
Make of it what you will, but there's no getting away from the fact that you're probably going to spend a long time keeping everything crossed that a few jackpot prizes land in the bonus round. Regardless of the volatility setting, it always felt too high for my taste and the gameplay suffered as a result. That said, cash out symbols can occasionally provide some ridiculous payouts and the max win seems pretty reasonable at 1,500x.
