If you are going to take a punt on this game, then you should know that you'll need base game wins to land across 20 paylines and groups of three, four or five matching symbols are the way forward.
The lowest payers are the royal symbols and these will get you up to 2x with a group of five present on the reels. The picture symbols can pay up to 50x and the wilds have the same value.
With the apparent lack of any free spins, you will have to make do with the respins bonus that can ignite at any moment when the coloured tokens land. Each of the tokens has its own representative at the top of the reels and triggering the game with each one means a different modifier.
The red modifier is an extra set of reels, so you'll be able to land twice the number of cash tokens and the green modifier brings an extra spin to your tally. Finally, you have the extra pays modifier and this will add random cash boosts to the coins on the grid. During the bonus game, you can land other coloured tokens and introduce more modifiers.
The idea is that you have three spins and each time a coin lands, those spins are renewed. Some coins are simply cash values and others are jackpot prizes. You can go for one of the four lower jackpots, with the Mega prize topping out at 1000x and if these are collected on the grid, they're yours to keep. The Grand jackpot comes if you fill a grid with 15 coin symbols.
The game's main feature can be triggered by the red, green or blue tokens that land with cash values during the base game. You'll see the banana graphic begin to glow as more of these tokens are collected but don't use this as a marker as it is purely for illustrative purposes. The prize is three respins and you'll take one of the triggering modifiers along with you. You could see extra rows added to create a double board, an extra life added to your respins counter or random values added to the cash symbols.
I waded through many a base game spin as I attempted to come face to face with the special bonus round, and after about half an hour of spinning these reels, I finally triggered the extra spins version. It was a huge anticlimax as I only landed two coins during the game and my final win was quite an abrupt 10x and off you go!
The base game wins are very frequent but they won't always return your base bet and I'm struggling to see where the 10,000x max win is going to come from. The volatility is stated as high on the Iron Dog website but I found that the regular, smaller wins were larger than I would normally associate with a high volatility game.
Iron Dog has used this format several times before and you only have to look at how many of their titles have the number three in them to see that’s true! It's their version of Games Global’s Power Combo and it seems quite popular with players these days. The three monkeys sit at the top of the reels and have their own annoying little animations – akin to a child with ADHD who wants to get dressed up and dance around while you're trying to concentrate. However you feel about the cheeky chimps who represent this latest release, you can also watch them on your mobile phone if you prefer to play that way.
3 Cheeky Chimps doesn't offer anything new and you could argue that it delivers a lot less than some other very similar Iron Dog titles. Perhaps some free spins will be added as we get closer to the release date but I wouldn't hold your breath. It's a bit of a swing and a miss for me but there is always a chance of landing one of those five jackpot prizes and that could add 5,000x to your balance straight away.
