Monopoly Slots & Slot Sites

Monopoly slots are the digital descendants of the legendary board game that began as a lesson in land tax back in 1903. The first patented version was The Landlord’s Game, which later became Monopoly, and was distributed by Parker Brothers (now Hasbro).

A century later, Monopoly is one of the most iconic brands in the world, with thousands of official versions based on everything from London to Star Wars. It was only a matter of time before Monopoly went digital…

About Monopoly Slots

A battle for rights

Just as the rights to the physical board game had become contentious, there was a certain amount of competition over the rights to produce slot games under the Monopoly banner.

IGT was the first developer to hold these rights, and they certainly made the best of it. Monopoly slot games were being produced even before online slots hit their stride, with a number of Monopoly-based physical slot machines being released in the 1990s.

By 2016, the rights had transferred to WMS (under Scientific Games), and by 2022 to Light & Wonder (formerly SG Digital). Light & Wonder continue to produce Monopoly slots, and the brand seems to be thriving. Each era brought its own touch, shaping a series that’s always familiar but never static.

Putting a spin on a classic

There are too many Monopoly slots for us to give them all a shout out, but there are a few that have really defined the series in recent years, and these are a great place for newcomers to dive in.

2019: Monopoly Megaways

Monopoly Megaways remains one of the most popular Monopoly slots, incorporating the Megaways engine. The 117,649 ways to win keep things lively, while the Reel Adventure bonus sees Mr Monopoly moving around the board, unlocking multipliers and free spins along the way. There’s a big max payout of 14,700x your stake, and Cascading Reels offer the tantalising possibility of a chain of wins. For sheer entertainment value, Monopoly Megaways is tough to beat.

2020: Monopoly Big Spin

Monopoly Big Spin uses a roulette-style wheel, rather than traditional reels. The Mega Drop jackpot system adds three progressive jackpots. It’s familiar enough to be enjoyed by dedicated slots fans, but introduces some fun new mechanics. Monopoly Big Spin serves as an illustration of how Monopoly games are often innovative and determined to keep things fresh.

2021: Monopoly Electric Wins

Retro-styled, neon-lit and visually striking, Monopoly Electric Wins shows how well the original game can translate onto a screen. In this adaptation, SG Digital have kept the board game in mind. Not only are the reels situated in the middle of a Monopoly board, but players actually throw dice and make their way around the board.

2021: Monopoly Lunar New Year

Putting an Oriental twist on the format, Monopoly Lunar New Year demonstrates the versatility of the Monopoly brand. It doesn’t lean too heavily on the traditional elements of Monopoly, yet manages to offer something that is rich and vibrant, with sophisticated features and mechanics. This title shows how the Monopoly format can adapt while keeping the board game’s charm intact.

2023: Monopoly Travel World Tour

In the current Light & Wonder era of Monopoly slots, the games have taken on a premium aesthetic, with no expenses spared as far as production design goes. Monopoly Travel World Tour takes players on a journey around the globe, with lashings of exotic visuals. The gameplay itself can feel a little bit ‘safe’, with a medium volatility level and a modest max win, but the bonus features are great fun. Light & Wonder is catering to the mainstream with this one.

Special editions and variants

It would be an exaggeration to say that there are as many variations of Monopoly slot games as there are of Monopoly board games, but not a massive one! From live game shows to Slingo and innovative new instant win games, the Monopoly brand is as strong as ever.

The value of familiarity

Thimbles, monocles, iconic locations, irons and Community Chests... We’re all familiar with the iconography of Monopoly. By incorporating the brand’s symbolism into slot games, players can enjoy a sense of familiarity and trust.

From Community Chest bonuses to Chance Card-inspired modifiers, the familiar Monopoly symbols slot neatly into features that feel natural. Many Monopoly slot mechanics make use of the unmistakable board layout, hotel building, the GO! symbol, and, of course, the one and only Rich Uncle Pennybags!

There’s something reassuring about the constant presence of Monopoly. It’s been around longer than any of us, yet it refuses to stagnate. It’s clear to anyone who’s played them that slot games are simply the latest evolutionary stage of a timeless classic.
