Wild Swarm Triple Hive has a very favourable volatility setting on paper but it could work against you in practice. You'll have to take a spin to find out what happens!
As expected, this game plays on a 5x4 grid with wins available running from left to right. A group of three matching symbols landing on one of the 20 paylines is the minimum requirement and the lowest win you can expect is 0.10x your bet.
Unfortunately, a lot of the symbols struggle to return your bet amount unless you make a group of four or five matching symbols. The highest payers will get you up to 10x and the other symbols you'll find are the wild. Regular wild symbols can pay up to 10x and substitute for other paying symbols. The 4 bee symbols are wilds and will potentially trigger one of the bonus games.
Triggering the free spins feature requires one of the special bee symbols to turn up and randomly ignite the feature. There are three potential options with the red, green and yellow bees all having their own special modifiers when you play your free spins.
The queen bee can trigger any of these special modifiers and has a higher chance of doing so. One of the base game modifiers will see you play for jackpot prizes and the second one offers a multiplier figure. The final one is a set of sticky wild symbols.
There's also a wheel feature which can trigger during the bonus or the base game spins and when this occurs, you could grab a fantastic prize. Any of the jackpots are available along with smaller multipliers and potentially, extra free spins if you trigger this feature from within the bonus game. Jackpot prizes are worth between 10x and 1,000x.
You can activate the wheel feature whenever a chest symbol lands during one of your base game or free spins. The wheel gives you a free spin and awards one of the prizes located on it. You can pick up the top jackpot prize, smaller multipliers or extra free spins.
Wild honey symbols can substitute for regular symbols and help create payouts, and they also go a little further. As they land, they can trigger the free spins bonus with one of three types of modifiers available during the bonus game. One game offers a chance to hit jackpot prizes, another will bring multipliers and the third offers sticky wild symbols.
The small base game wins will struggle to put a smile on your face during this low/medium volatility game, but there is an opportunity to land a max win worth over 20,000x. Unfortunately, you need groups of five or more symbols to really do any damage. The wild symbols are fairly abundant but they still struggled to push my balance to a respectable height. The bonus games have better opportunities to pick up bigger wins but once again, the volatility will probably keep these quite low as you spin.
I always liked the wild swarm idea with bees wearing armour and reenacting some kind of medieval show. They are cute characters and the soundtrack it's just as fun. The graphics are sharp and the whole game area is well laid out. It looks great on any size screen and that includes smaller mobile phones. You've got the main grid right there in front of you with the three bonus game triggers at the top of the screen and your five jackpots down the left-hand side. It's not complicated and that's always a plus in my opinion.
I had high hopes for this slot with Wild Swarm 2 grabbing a superb 4.13 rating from us in February of last year. Wild Swarm Triple Hive fails to live up to expectations with a very predictable set of features and a familiar layout that doesn't push any boundaries to any great extent. Moreover, the lowish volatility works against this creation by making it quite difficult to land any big wins despite the huge max win on offer. I'll be heading back to the second game if I fancy buzzing around this series a little more.
