Grabbing a win is a little restricted by the 19 fixed paylines, but if you're lucky enough to get a group of six of the green cocktail symbols, you can get a magnificent 50x prize. Even the royal symbols will fetch you some fairly impressive rewards, with six aces paying 10x.
There are four wild multiplier symbols that substitute for regular payers, and when it takes part in a win, the value of the payout gets multiplied by that figure. More than one can join in and have those numbers added together.
The wild multipliers are represented by four spirits, and these may be a little more ghostly than you first thought. The blue type can offer multipliers of up to 4x, but once you make your way through to the green spirit, you could be looking at boosts of up to 200x. If they can take part in a win, the whole reel could expand and become a wild multiplier.
Making your way out of the base game requires three or four scatter symbols, or you might want to pay 100x for the privilege. You can also offer 200x to have a go at the more advanced version.
With the basic game, you'll see exactly the same things taking place as you did during the base game, and you'll have a better chance of seeing the wild multipliers. In the super version, it doesn't matter which of the reels those Spirit Multipliers land on; they will always expand if they can offer the multiplier.
There's also a chance to pay 60x and have a spin with at least three wild multipliers guaranteed for that spin.
The wild multipliers can land on any of the four central reels, and if the corresponding colour lands on the correct reel, then you can see it expand and produce a multiplier worth up to 200x. The entire reel will be a wild multiplier at this point, and the same modifier will also be available during the free spins bonus.
Three or four scatter symbols will trigger the free spins bonus, and with both versions, you get 10 free spins. In the first, you have an increased chance of landing the wild multipliers, but in the second, a wild multiplier on the connected reel will activate, and the wild connector will expand into a wild reel regardless of which of the four reels it lands on.
Ordinarily, you wouldn't expect a hard-hitting multiplier reel to be combined with standard symbol wins that are reasonably impressive. However, that is the case in The Jack & Rose, and when the two combine, the results can be fairly stunning. It's no surprise that the max win is 15,000x, but unfortunately, I didn't see anything close to that figure. A few of the random multiplier combos were worth over 100x though.
There's a slightly dark side to this boozer, with the word spirit offering a little play on its double meaning. You think things are going to be jolly, but there's nothing happy about these demonic multipliers. They offer some nice animations as they expand, but the soundtrack definitely won't get you in the mood for a good knees up! It's quite dramatic at heart, and that should add to the tension as you hit the spin button.
I knew exactly what to expect when I picked up The Jack & Rose, and having played many Hacksaw games before, I could see that this one was going to be a fairly simple copy. The one area where it does manage to set itself apart is the animation and overall theme that seems to connect well with the game's mechanics and modifiers.
