We saw this mechanic come to life in Huff N’ Puff CollectR, and now it's back as we seek to boost this evolution meter and see what it all means. Nature will create multiple win ways with water, air, and fire while playing an integral role. There's even a black hole thrown in, just to mix things up a little!
Picking up a win in Spark of Creation requires a collection of gems, and these are picked up by the creatures. They move and collect the paying symbols, and they continue to do so until there are no more left in their path. Naturally, each creature will pick up gems of the same colour.
There are a number of modifying feature symbols that can help increase the ways in which these creatures go about their business.
Winning symbols are removed from the grid and new symbols will drop down to fill the spaces. The seven feature symbols are a range of modifications such as bonus symbols, wilds, transformers and others.
Collecting a transform symbol makes a cluster of symbols next to the win turn the same colour and can convert a random number of payout symbols into feature symbols. The black hole symbol will trigger this feature, which activates when the creatures can't collect any more symbols and will absorb all symbols and creatures and throw them back out onto the grid in different places. Wild symbols substitute for other regular payers and adjacent creatures can switch places.
When a symbol gets collected, a multiplier is added, and each time a symbol is collected on top of that, the multiplier increases – multipliers are worth up to 1,024x. A multiplier strike may automatically add a number of these multipliers to the grid to save you the first step.
As wins take place, the evolution meter will keep track of the collected symbols, and when it's full, one of the pending creature evolve features is added. These upgrade creatures to a higher level and improve their abilities. Nature will increase multipliers, water will add feature symbols, air will choose a creature and create a path for it to follow, and fire will remove other creatures.
To make it to the bonus game, you'll need three bonus symbols and the progress from the evolution meter and the creature levels and multipliers will all remain persistent. You play five free spins, and collecting bonus symbols will give you even more. There is a super version of the game, and a multiplier strike is guaranteed with every spin.
Outside the UK, players may go straight to the bonus game for 100x.
Each of the creatures has its own ability in the form of nature, water, air and fire. Nature will increase multipliers, water adds feature symbols, air creates different paths, and fire will remove symbols from the grid. Each of the creatures can evolve as you increase the meter and move through three levels of power, with each one being potentially more valuable to your balance than the last.
You need three bonus symbols to trigger the bonus game, and then you'll be off to play five free spins, with extra spins coming your way when you pick up extra bonus symbols. The great thing about this game is that the evolution level, multipliers and other elements that would usually reset will remain persistent throughout the game. It's also possible to buy your way straight in for 100x if you live outside the UK.
The volatility isn't as high as I was expecting in Spark of Creation, and it officially sits at 7 out of 10. This is good news because there are lots of features and modifiers taking place, and hopefully, you'll get to see all of them taking place at some point. Base game wins can be powerful if you build up that evolve meter and see the creatures begin to work their way through levels and land you substantial payouts on a good day. 10,000x is the max win, and it's obvious that making it into the super bonus with its persistent benefits and multiplier strikes will be an integral part of this.
As we've seen in the original collector game, and similar creations such as Pirots 4, quirky little characters can slide around the grid collecting their gems to great effect, and it all works perfectly on smaller mobile phone screens as well. It's a little bit like a game of Pac-Man on acid, and some of the modifications and winning sequences are quite hard to keep up with. There are loads of upgrades and other boosts helping out, and it's amazing that ELK has managed to fit it all together seamlessly.
I kind of knew what to expect with Spark of Creation, and it didn't disappoint. Building up the multipliers is essential for grabbing the bigger wins, and adding the evolve meter along with creature upgrades and multipliers was a stroke of genius. Moving into the bonus game isn't essential, and you'll find all of the excitement you need flowing throughout the game, but obviously, bonuses are always nice to have, and the persistent levels, as mentioned, should help your balance out. It's a top effort that might leave you wondering what's going on!
