Everything about this slot feels intentionally dated but the additional modifiers and features are certainly up to date. You can see wins boosted in a couple of different ways and that's on top of some regular payouts that aren't too bad in the first place. Could it be that Jelly has created the perfect old-school fruit machine?
You have five reels and three rows to enjoy with a number of standard fruit machine symbols making up the regular payers. The lowest returns come from the royal symbols and for a group of five of these, you'll get up to 1.40x. From the bars, you could get up to 4x and for a set of five title symbols, you get 10x.
Winning symbols stay put and the losing ones disappear – this means that new symbols will come to the grid. As this happens, the game area begins to grow with the reel upon which symbols were held growing up to six rows high.

The major benefit of this part of the creation is that the multi-boost that appears thanks to wild symbols will remain persistent even if falling symbols don't create a new winning combo.
After what seemed like an eternity, I eventually conceded and bought my way into the free spins bonus for 50x, which conflicts with the game's info that states it will cost 100x. At this point, the background turns blue and you watch things speed up a little.
Despite the 50% discount compared to what I was expecting, I was left extremely disappointed as I walked away with 0.6x. I understand that the game can't return big payouts with every direct purchase, but not even 1x?!!!

How much love this slot shows you will all depend on how often the two multiplier boosts turn up. Requiring a wild symbol to appear on a winning spin and that it forms part of the payout, is quite a demand to make and with high volatility, you aren't likely to see it happen very often. I didn't see the Xwin turn up at all and so my wins kind of limped home to lick their wounds. If you pick up this game on the right day, you could be looking at 10,000x max payout, apparently.
Most slot developers have taken a trip down the retro fruit machine route at some point or another and today it's the turn of Jelly. With a fairly nasty mustard/gold background and some overly exposed symbols, you get the feeling that the design team has gone just one step too far in their quest to create a 70s classic. The soundtrack is okay but it didn't spark any ‘wow’ moments – although it looks nice enough on mobile phone screens.
So, did Jelly create the perfect old-school fruit machine? Not exactly, unfortunately. Even though the boost system can improve your wins, you do need some specific placements with the wild symbols to achieve any benefits. The other Xwin feature failed to appear. You have got a growing set of reels and that's always a nice thing as the number of winways will continue to increase.
There is potential here, according to the stats anyway, but it's definitely lacking gameplay excitement. Just to finish on a positive note, the retro look and feel works fairly well and keeps you entertained as you spin.
