I've seen mystery symbols convert into many things over the years but I'm not sure I've seen them produce so much possibility. In this game, they might stay put, they might nudge or they might spin to reveal other symbols. There shouldn't be any dull moments involved as we set sail in search of that top prize.
It feels a little like a grid slot on board this galleon but we have just 40 paylines to work with and the top-level symbols are only worth 7.5x for a group of five. The low payers are quite woeful and you'll need a little help from the wild symbol with his 10x max win for five of a kind and substituting powers.
Mystery symbols are a little more interesting and could potentially bring you large payouts. As they land, they reveal one of the regular payers or possibly a gold skull and crossbones. If the latter occurs, that place will spin through and potentially land you money symbols, convert all other places on the grid into crossbones symbols, collectors, multipliers, payers, converters, hooks or lineup symbols. The mystery symbols nudge down one position and the other reels spin normally.
Playing for free doesn't have to cost you any extra cash but outside the UK, this is an option. For everyone else, three, four or five scatter symbols is the requirement. 100x will deliver the regular three-scatter result and 300x buys four scatter symbols. 1000x gets five scatter symbols and 200x is a random version.

For me, the nudge system didn't happen too often and my balance wasn't particularly happy. If you can get into the bonus game, then those two stacked reels could do you a huge favour and if the special symbol reveals a chance to completely fill the grid with mystery symbols, then you might be on for a big win. A 20,000x top win sounds incredible but I've no idea how far you're going to have to sail to see it come over the horizon.
Where would you expect to be while playing a game like this? You guessed it, you're on a pirate ship. No surprises there then and to be honest, not much was out of the ordinary as I progressed through the adventure. You get a little animation with the mystery symbols and in the background, there's some fairly basic movements from the ship. It looks nice though and I can't really complain or congratulate Skywind for this visual display. Incidentally, it looks exactly the same on your mobile phone, so take your pick of devices.
The list of modifications is pretty strong in Pirate Blimey with a host of different outcomes available from that reveal symbol. Unfortunately, the game is kind of clinging on so tightly to this occurrence that all the rest of your spins feel a little dull. Your balance will suffer at the same time as your enjoyment levels and that's going to hurt this game's overall score. It's a great idea but it could have been executed better.
