Lucky's Wild Pub first appeared this time last year, ready for the Saint Patrick's Day celebrations. This time around, it doesn't seem like much has changed, but the max win is considerably larger. You can still trigger the bonus game with three different coins, and you've got a chance of hitting a much larger jackpot during the bonus game.
The regular spins during this base game can deliver some reasonable wins across 25 paylines. The lowest payers are the royal symbols, and a group of five aces is worth 1.20x. The picture symbols grow to 2x, and this comes your way for a group of five leprechauns.
The wild symbols will substitute for all of these, but won't appear on the first reel. Three types of bonus coins can appear, and each one can randomly trigger one of the free spins bonus games. Unfortunately, they won't offer a lot of benefits in terms of base game prizes.
Technically, there are three bonus games available, and they go by the names Zone, Doublin’ and Life.
Any one of the coins can trigger these bonuses, but essentially, they are the same idea. All but the green coins will produce three respins, and each time a cash symbol or jackpot prize lands, those spins are renewed.
The green game plays with four lives. If you trigger the feature with the purple coin, you get multipliers added to different zones. The red coin will play out across two bonus areas. Cash and jackpots remain sticky until the end of the bonus, before they are all sent to your balance.
If you fill the grid with coins and jackpot symbols, you'll pick up the 5,000x jackpot.
The regular bonus game is available to purchase outside the UK, and this costs 100x. The super version will cost 500x. When you play the super game, additional multipliers are added up to 100x to wins in one of the zones.
Bonus coins come in three distinct shades. There are purple, red and green ones. All three of them can trigger the respins bonus, and each one offers its own modifier. The purple coin will add a few multiplier zones to improve your payouts, and the red coins will double the game area. Finally, the green coin modifier will play with four spins instead of three.
If one of the three coins finally triggers the bonus game, you'll begin with three respins, or possibly four if you go in with the green coin. Money symbols and jackpots can land, and these will stick in place and refresh your spins. Coin values are worth up to 30x, and the three lower jackpots will pay up to 150x. If you fill the grid with coins, you pick up the grand prize of 5,000x.
With the base game failing to offer anything other than standard wins, anyone in their right mind is going to be desperate to get the hell out of there as soon as possible. It's a real shame that those coin symbols can't do anything other than trigger the bonus feature.
If you're lucky enough to get there, or if you buy your way in, you can see some attractive prizes. I played a couple of times and managed to take my balance way above its starting point. I also took on the super bonus with a 500x buy-in, and the first time it tripled my investment, but the second time it left me with just 7x. Further proof that bonus buys are not a guaranteed win!
Unfortunately, Lucky's Wild Pub 2 is a carbon copy of the original outing, and Pragmatic has made very little attempt to separate the two titles. One of the pots is a different colour, but I hardly think that counts! The soundtrack is annoyingly chirpy, but that's nothing less than you would expect from a game in this niche.
I was hoping that Lucky's Wild Pub 2 was going to deviate from the basic idea somewhat and do something interesting with those base game coins. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be, and Pragmatic has missed an opportunity. The bonus games are good fun, but the base game is a write-off.
