Your first task in Guitar Quest is to watch standard wins land across 1,024 paylines, and these are made up of some fairly familiar fruits with a few graphic additions to the display. A group of five bells will get you the best win of 3x.
The base game features some equalizer additions and these can trigger at the beginning of any spin – any combination might occur. Up to 8 wild symbols can be added to the reels, and up to 10 random positions can be highlighted to count as two symbols in each. You may find a multiplier colliding with your total win, and this is worth up to 10x. Finally, the four lowest-paying symbols might be removed for your spin.
Three or more bonus symbols give you a chance to take your pick of two bonus rounds with Backstage offering the first of the action. Wild symbols will also serve this game area and hopefully take your balance up towards that 10,000x max win. Personally, I couldn't do any better than 30x, but it wasn't a bad session.
The graphics are probably quite intentionally basic in this game, and it maintains an almost retro feel in a strange way. The emphasis is on the heavy rock music and slightly obscene messaging across the cherry! Pay attention to the graphic equalizer, as it can burst into life at any point and start manipulating the grid. The music changes slightly as you move between the different parts of the game, and it should all keep you entertained while you spin.
The one thing that this game does well is to create some quite unique excitement during the bonus rounds and crank things up into a frenzy when it happens. It certainly is a fast-paced feature section. The base game didn't offer me anything out of the ordinary, so I think we have to put this one down as a game that's been heavily aimed at the direct bonus buy market. That's not always a bad thing though, and if you're up for it, you might just enjoy what Relax has come up with in Guitar Quest.
