Rainbow Riches Slots & Slot Sites
The appeal of Irish-themed slots is remarkable, and there are none more instantly recognisable than the Rainbow Riches games. In fact, so successful are these Barcrest games that there are now over 20 of them, and counting!
Before Rainbow Riches became the iconic, definitive Irish slot game series that it is today, it was a land-based attraction. Barcrest has its roots in betting shop machines, and this legacy continued to inform its creations. There are many companies that didn’t survive the early 2000s transition to online slots, let alone turn it to their advantage in this way.
Best Rainbow Riches Slots
-
Rainbow Riches Cluster Magic
Barcrest- 96.34% RTP
- Medium volatility
- 12,500x stake max win
Rainbow Riches Cluster Magic is a departure from what you can ordinarily expect from one of these popular Irish themed slots. Rather than being played across 5 reels, Cluster Magic, as the name suggests, is played on a grid with clustered symbols forming wins.
The overall game grid is set to 8 x 8, however, not all sections of the grid are unlocked at the start of the game and each new spins starts at 4 x 4. Every time a win is registered (five or more symbols clustered together) a section of the grid unlocks to allow more symbols into the game.
Triggering six consecutive cascades will unlock 8 free spins that sees the full 8 x 8 game board unlocked. There are also 3 modifiers to benefit from, these are: Prestige Wilds (which add up to 12 fixed wilds to the grid), Infinity Spins (which multiply prizes up to 10x and can re-trigger up to 250 spins) and Wild Rain (which takes you to a new set of reels with up to 16 wilds and the chance to find a pot of gold worth 12,500x your initial stake).
With a favourable RTP of 96.30% and a more than impressive 12,500x max payout, there’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t be playing Rainbow Riches Cluster Magic.
-
Rainbow Riches Power Pitch
Light & Wonder- 96.00% RTP
- Medium volatility
- 10,000x stake max win
When players within the iGaming world think of Irish slots, they immediately think of the jolly green leprechaun from the Rainbow Riches series. For years, this series has dominated and continues to do so today.
The next instalment of the series is Rainbow Riches Power Pitch which plays on 5-reels with 10 paylines and contains a whole host of unique features. The Power Pitch feature has three different variants with modifiers leading to wins of up to 10,000x the stake.
-
Rainbow Riches Pick 'n' Mix
Barcrest- 96.00% RTP
- High volatility
- 500x stake max win
Rainbow Riches Pick ‘n’ Mix is arguably one of the most well-known Rainbow Riches slots going as it can be found on many online casinos and fixed-odds betting terminals in bookmakers, pubs, bars and bingo halls. The online slot version has 5-reels, 20 paylines and a whole host of exciting features that help make this game so popular.
Before spinning the reels players are asked to pick between one and three bonus features (out of a possible five) that can be unlocked during the base game, these are a free spins bonus, magic toadstool bonus, roads to riches bonus, cash crop bonus and pots of gold bonus. Each bonus has different mechanics that can lead to varying cash prizes.
Players also have the opportunity to take a shot at the Big Bet game which will allow them to trigger spins with automatically triggered bonus features for guaranteed wins.
Pick ‘n’ Mix is certainly stronger than the original Rainbow Riches game thanks to the massive amount of bonus features this game plays host to. However, with an average RTP of 96% and a very disappointing maximum payout of 500x your initial stake, we can’t help but feel slightly short-changed.
-
Rainbow Riches Megaways
Barcrest- 95.90% RTP
- Medium-High volatility
- 12,500x stake max win
In 2019 Barcest released Rainbow Riches Megaways. This slot is a like for like modern recreation of the original, however, this has 117,649 ways to win, a maximum payout of 12,500x your initial stake and an RTP of 95.9%.
-
Rainbow Riches Reels of Gold
Barcrest- 96.00% RTP
- Medium volatility
- 2,500x stake max win
There’s no harm in experimenting and diversifying your slot portfolio, and Barcrest have most certainly experimented when it comes to Rainbow Riches Reels of Gold. Rather than playing this game over one set of reels, there are two sets, one standard set and one colossal set.
We won’t lie, there’s a LOT going on here and we’d argue that it’s almost too much… At any time during a spin a fairy can fly onto the screen and award a bonus. These include Magic Wilds, Wild Bursts, Magic Symbols, Reel Win Multipliers, Super Stacked Wilds, Balloon Bonuses and Reel Win Shuffles. There’s also a standard free spins, a free spins balloon bonus pick and click round and a free spins gamble feature.
Rainbow Riches Reels of Gold utilises the Big Bet feature to allow players to unlock further paylines and put themselves in the driving seat to win even more money from each and every spin they make thanks to additional mechanics such as expanding wilds and free spins.
If you’re looking to play a Rainbow Riches slot that has something a little different about it then this would suffice, however, if you’re worried about getting bogged down by confusing mechanics then pick another game, as this one goes slightly over the top.

About Rainbow Riches Slots
Luck of the Irish
When the original game was released, the Irish-themed slot market wasn’t as saturated as it is now, and Rainbow Riches can be seen as a bit of a trailblazer for this reason. The concept of an Irish-themed slot may not have been brand new, but it hadn’t been done like this.
It’s a match made in heaven. Pots of gold, lucky clovers and other elements of Irish culture are hallmarks of these games, and it all comes together in a very jolly way. The cheeky leprechaun character makes an appearance in all of the games in the series.
Accept no imitations. Rainbow Riches is the quintessential Irish-themed slot series.
Humble beginnings
Long before mobile casinos and Megaways mechanics, Rainbow Riches was already building a loyal fanbase on fixed-odds terminals, a foundation that would prove invaluable in the online era.
For many players, the original Rainbow Riches holds nostalgic value. For those without a pre-existing connection to it, however, it’s probably best to explore the later games. This original feels very simplistic, and the metrics let it down a bit (it has a 95% RTP and 500x max win, which was more acceptable back then).
Don’t get us wrong – Rainbow Riches holds a special place in our hearts. It was a staple of betting shops and pub machines for years, and few slots evoke the early days of online gambling quite like the original Rainbow Riches. But the series has been steadily improving over the years, and the first instalment feels to be of its time.
Onwards and upwards
Several years after 2009’s Rainbow Riches, Barcrest hit a rich vein, releasing two excellent Rainbow Riches games in early 2016.
The first was Rainbow Riches Pick 'n' Mix, which appears similar to the original in some ways but distinguishes itself using a fun system of extra bonus features. Rainbow Riches Pick 'n' Mix marked a clear step towards the modernisation of the series.
Rainbow Riches Reels of Gold came just two months later, with a much-improved max win and a whopping 100 paylines (this was before Megaways went mainstream). Compared to its predecessors, Rainbow Riches Reels of Gold is a sophisticated game, and much less aimed at casual players. Perhaps Barcrest wanted the series to mature alongside its fans.
The history of Rainbow Riches contains both highs and lows, and the lows have generally been the result of efforts to cash in on passing trends, or have felt like they’ve just taken a slight step in the wrong direction.
Not all experiments paid off. Rainbow Riches Fortune Favours would be an example of this, but at least it illustrates a reluctance to let the series stagnate. Even so, the series was never too far from another hit, and the popularity of the games encouraged Barcrest to produce sequel after sequel.
2019’s Rainbow Riches Megaways felt like a significant leap, with the series now incorporating the increasingly popular Megaways mechanic, while also giving everything else a bit of an overhaul.
Rainbow Riches Cluster Magic came out in 2020, using a grid-based cluster pays format while retaining the basic iconography of the originals.
The modern era
In 2022, Barcrest became part of Light & Wonder (previously known as SG Digital), who are now responsible for the Rainbow Riches series.
That same year, Rainbow Riches Power Pitch was released, showcasing their commitment to the series, and producing, arguably, one of the best Rainbow Riches games to date.
In early 2025, a Dream Pot Jackpot version was released, called Rainbow Riches Dream Pots, introducing a progressive network jackpot to the mix. These newer releases demonstrate that the series still has momentum, and that Light & Wonder respect the legacy of these games.
After so many years of Rainbow Riches, credit is due to both Barcrest and Light & Wonder. These developers have managed to keep things moving with the times, breaking new ground and giving players what they want: familiarity, with a fresh twist.
