I'm pretty sure that the only thing that's going to surprise me with this game is that I've never seen a slot called The Grim Reaper before. It features wilds, multipliers and respins but does that necessarily mean they'll be applied in a fairly rudimentary fashion? Perhaps not and maybe Quickspin has got something a little darker in store for us and should be cut some slack!
There are only 10 lines on offer in this game and across them, you'll be looking out for wins made up of three, four or five matching symbols. The low-paying symbols are quite valuable by modern standards with the ace paying up to 7.50x. The picture symbols can produce a fantastic 75x for a 5 of a kind win.
You’ll also see some souls displaying multipliers and these can make their way to your balance as long as a wild symbol turns up at the same time. The soul symbols take on different sizes and as the soul gets bigger, it means the multiplier is starting to increase. The wilds can substitute for all others and are also worth an incredible 150x for a top combo.
Another handy base Game feature to watch out for is the soul respin and you could get a few of these in a row if you're lucky. You need a wild symbol to land along with a soul symbol to trigger the feature and you'll see these lock in place and the rest of the reels spin. Any new Soul or wild symbol that lands will also stay put and offer another respin. If these symbols don't land, the repins end and the base game process starts again.
There are, officially, three bonus games on display but if you're a little cynical, then you might say it's just one game with three different modifiers. However you feel about this description, you can't get away from the fact that you might play up to nine free spins! Between 3 and 5 scatter symbols are needed and for this, you get between 7 and 9 free plays.
You can't retrigger spins and while you're playing any of the games, you'll see a meter above the reels that tracks the wilds. When you've got 6 and 12 extra wilds, you get another free spin and you get to the next ritual.

When wilds land alongside a soul symbol, you'll see the soul respin feature come alive. Souls and wild symbols lock in place and the rest of the reels respin. Three, four or five bonus symbols can appear at any time during the base game and trigger three versions of the free spins bonus. The first allows you to experience the gathering feature, the second delivers Raise the Souls and the last will produce the Reaper Harvest. All three of these are capable of bringing you big wins.
The top win of 5360x might not be the biggest you’ve ever seen but this one does feel achievable. The soul cash figures can keep on growing and during the bonus game, you see the best symbols stick around and grab bigger prizes.
The Grim Reaper slot his eerie, to say the least! I was kind of hoping it would be that way and anything else would have been a complete letdown. The troubling organ music, along with green swirling mist, puts you on edge and keeps you clinging to the edge of your seat while you spin. The game area finds itself at the door to a tomb or some form of entry to another realm and all of this takes place in a graveyard. In my personal opinion, the game looks better when played on a larger screen, but you can pick it up on your mobile phone if you like.
I've got a lot of time for the features available in The Grim Reaper and I feel like they've been carefully thought out to keep everybody entertained and spooked at the same time. With games like this, the only problem is going to be how often the features appear but I was pleasantly surprised with the frequency with which I saw them. At one point, I picked up a 27x win thanks to the wilds and soul symbols working their respin duties.
