What you have is essentially a simple base game that features six reels with 40 fixed paylines making their way from left to right. You need a group of at least three matching symbols to pick up a win. The lowest paying symbols will get you a reward worth up to 0.40x and the best ones can pay up to 2x.
These figures will not bring you anything substantial, so I'm assuming we're going to be relying on a few modifiers here and there. You'll notice a slayer wild symbol and it only appears on the first reel.
When it lands with at least one demon symbol, you'll get the wild slayer feature where matching symbols get upgraded to wilds or multipliers worth 5x or less. You could also make your way to the incursion feature which only comes during the base game and brings up to 20 portals onto the game area. They reveal one of the high-paying demons and hopefully bring you a big win.
Regular wild symbols will substitute for other standard payers and could fetch you a win worth up to 5x for a group of six. If a wild symbol lands during the incursion feature, you'll activate the slayer feature with five or more portals appearing and this brings more wilds to the game.
Four, five or six scatter symbols will trigger the combat feature and you now see reel one always displaying your slayer and reel six bringing on the demon challenger. With each spin, your slayer and challenger show a different number of weapons and other benefits that should build up wins as they attempt to murder each other. If the slayer wins, you start to make your way through the levels and the basic premise is that you'll pick up bigger wins as you go.
There are coin symbols that get collected along with multipliers and you might be able to build up your own health as well.
The Super Stake option is there and costs 0.50x your standard bet and this increases your chances of triggering the bonus game. Outside the UK, there is an option to go directly to the combat zone for 100x.
The slayer feature will trigger if the incursion feature is active while a slayer wild symbol lands at the same time. Throughout the game area, the feature reveals matching high-paying demons. If the slayer wild lands, it will activate and target the demon symbols, which in turn transforms them into wilds or wild multipliers.
Four, five or six scatter symbols get you into the combat feature where the slayer now does his thing. The idea is that the slayers are your buddy and the demons are your foe. A Halloween-themed game of Top Trumps takes place with each character having a number of health points that can be diminished by weapons. You pick up cash prizes and you can get even bigger wins if you make your way through the levels when the slayer gets rid of the demons.
The high volatility is very noticeable in this game and you might find yourself on the receiving end of quite a lot of bad spins. That's a shame because everything is far more interesting when you're landing wins, right?! You do have the opportunity to pick up some payouts when the features start to appear but I found myself desperately wanting to get to the bonus game – not only to see big rewards but also to watch the most interesting parts of the game burst into life. Those who build up a strong enough relationship with the slayer could defeat all their demons.
This game seems to have quite a basic comic book feel to it but I'm not sure if that's exactly what the developer was going for. The animations and other details are fairly rudimentary but they feel quite nice all the same. The adventure takes place on your mobile phone screens, laptops or other compatible devices with the reels set in what I assume is a high street setting. Stakelogic has shamelessly added its logo to the shop window and I think there's even a betting shop making an appearance.
Soul Slayer has some nice ideas and elements that are worthy of your attention this Halloween. The portals open up fairly regularly and these can bring big wins but the basic payouts aren't going to impress you much. Things could change during the bonus round and I think those who get there fastest will be the ones who have the nicest things to say about this creation.
