I'm not sure if it's just me, but I distinctly remember feeling completely lost when I watched Game of Thrones. With the constant necessity to revisit previous episodes and recaps, I started to watch my interest wane ever so slightly. It seems that Blueprint Gaming has got into the spirit of all things complicated and has come up with something just as baffling as the series itself – on paper, at least. Hopefully, once we start spinning these reels, all will become clear.
Trying to pick this game apart and reword it with simple instructions may be one of my biggest challenges as a slot reviewer yet!
It begins with six reels and four rows, offering up to 4,096 ways to win. This means that matching symbols must land on adjacent reels. The highest payers can get you up to 5x, and the wild symbols will substitute for regular paying symbols.
As the game begins, you have the night's watch collect symbol available, and this is an expanding collect symbol that grabs the value of any jackpot and coin symbols. Collecting some coins will move you on to the Stark Collect, and these cash and collect symbols hold to hopefully bring more into the game area.
You then move on to Baratheon with stepping reels, Lannister and increase the cash prizes, and Targaryen with non-collect reels respinning up to five times.
Finally, there is the bonus map, and you can move along the map to earn upgrades when the bonus is triggered. Triggering the bonus map game means that all accumulated upgrades become active and you start to pick up some prizes.
The Longclaw symbol can land with a collect symbol and bring a win worth up to 1,000x. Alternatively, you might get the super bonus.
Chest modifiers will change the reels when the dragons appear and hopefully, you'll pick up a few wins. You can get extra bonus symbols added, cash prizes added, guaranteed wins, nudging reels and more.
Up to this point, this whole slot sounds like a bonus game, but there is an official free spins round. It’s the Iron Throne free spins, and you'll have 10 free plays plus a win worth up to 500x as you trigger the feature. Accumulating collect symbols during the bonus game will bring you extra multipliers and spins as you go.

Finally, there is Dragon Fury with extra cash prize symbols.
Three or more bonus scatter symbols will trigger this bonus game and also give you an instant payout. Three scatters will get you 10 free spins, four will get you the same but with a 20x payout. Five scatters award 10 spins and a 100x payout, and finally, the 6 scatter symbols will get you a 500x win and 10 free spins. During the bonus, the unlocked features will remain active and accumulating collect symbols will give you extra spins and increase your multipliers.
This is one game with a hell of a lot of features and chances to win prizes! Whether it comes from swords, dragons, chests or anything else, there's always a chance of picking up a win. Obviously, grabbing those jackpots when the collect symbols land is one way of landing your wins and getting your balance somewhere close to that 17,000x max win, but you might be surprised just how powerful the chest modifiers are as well. I watched dragons attack these reels to great effect while I played, and some of the results were well worth having!
If it wasn't for the large burning lanterns, this open-plan castle would be a cold and bitter place. The chill factor is added to as winter arrives, when you pick up some cash collects as well. A few other animations are thrown in for good measure, and these are mainly attributed to those fire-breathing dragons. The main characters make an appearance as high-paying symbols, and the game soundtrack is a direct IP offering without any messing around or cheap adaptation. This is Game of Thrones – the real deal.
Having lots of features to look forward to isn't necessarily going to make a slot an instant hit, in my experience. It all needs to be coherent, and that takes a bit of careful thought from the design team. With Game of Thrones, they've managed to make it all work and bring together elements of the hit TV series while maintaining a thrill of big winning opportunities as you spin these reels. The only thing that surprises me is that it's taken so long to come to fruition. Even if you weren't a fan of this programme, you'll still get a lot out of the game.
