There isn't a hell of a lot going on in Cupid's Crush, but there seems to be a chance that regular wins might receive the occasional boost.
It all begins with a scatter pays mechanic that delivers payouts for eight or more matching symbols, and the largest reward is 50x. That seems quite small when you need 30 of the high-paying symbols to land.
Winning symbols disappear, and new ones will come to help continue the action, but that won't affect the multiplier symbols.
Multipliers are worth up to 100x, and they take on the form of a blue heart. During the cascade, these symbols are not destroyed and stick around instead to help further the payout potential.
Three bonus symbols will trigger 10 free spins, and the basic mechanic from the base game will continue. You now have the extra assistance from some mystery symbols that can improve your clusters.
The multiplier symbols will add to a progressive meter, and this is applied when wins take place using a multiplier that is present on the grid. After several hundred spins, I hadn't seen much evidence of the multipliers appearing at the right time, and standard wins were very small. The mystery symbols only turned up during the bonus games, and even when they did, they didn't add much to the entertainment value or my balance.
As it turns out, Wicked Games didn't intend to defame any floating angels in the making of this game. That's a shame because it was a great opportunity to add a little divisive audiovisual touch to draw in the crowds. Instead, we find ourselves up in the clouds with a floaty, delicate soundtrack and several hearts to get us all in the mood for love. Sometimes a developer plays it safe.
I can't help feeling disappointed by this creation, but I know I probably shouldn't be. Just because this designer has brought us some controversial titles in the past, such as Transformers, it doesn't mean that they always have to push the limits. In essence, Cupid's Crush does offer some popular features, and the game is easy to play. The volatility still feels a bit off in my opinion, and it would have been nice to see the modifications come to life a little more regularly.
