Back then, the thought of some random animals robbing a bank seemed a bit unhinged, but that's nothing compared to what we find spinning around a set of reels these days. This creation has a similar look and feel, but there are loads more choices for players to make, and that calls for an imaginative maths model. Thanks for taking the time to talk to us, Gary. Can you start by explaining your role at Relax Gaming?

I am the Gaming Mathematician Manager at Relax Gaming. My main role is to work with the mathematicians here to design our fantastic slot games. However, I also take on the role of Product Owner, where I create game ideas and help the whole team bring them to fruition.  

Relax Gaming closed the curtain on 2025 with the highly anticipated release of Iron Bank 2. Can you give us a summary of this release?

Iron Bank 2 is the direct sequel to the original heist hit from Relax. We’ve tried to keep the heart of the game untouched while ramping up the aspects we felt we could. 

How does Iron Bank 2 build on the original release? What’s new?

The main addition is that we’ve added a super and ultra mode to the free spins to add an extra layer of depth to the already exciting three bonus games. We made some minor tweaks to each as well to streamline the experience, and added some of our newer features and options that we have developed since the launch of the original. 

What did the development process look like for Iron Bank 2, from ideation to finally getting this game live online?

Since Iron Bank 2 was a collaboration project with CasinoGrounds – our sixth collaboration with them – the process began with some lengthy sessions together with them to decide how to approach the sequel. Once we had settled on our strategy and some fun ideas, we set about first building a math prototype so we could playtest it and then working with our talented designers to construct the game. We had weekly reviews and tests to make sure we kept the great flow and design player would expect from a sequel to such a great game. 

How different is creating a slot in collaboration with an external party in comparison to creating one in-house with just the Relax team? Were there any challenges and hurdles you had to overcome?

Not really, to be honest. With this project, we had such a clear idea of what we wanted to achieve and what was sacred with the concept of Iron Bank that it was usually easy to come to an agreement on what needed to be done. Having some more extremely knowledgeable people to review the game at each stage and provide some extra ideas was very beneficial for the project. 

Iron Bank 2 has three different Free Spins bonuses, Mystery Symbol, Expanding Wilds and Multiplier Collect. Would it be fair to suggest that giving players a choice is an important element of this game and other Relax titles?

We understand that we have a diverse group of players. Providing several free spins modes players can pick from allows more players to get the experience they want from the game, and allows dedicated Iron Bank fans to have more to explore in the game. 

If you had to pick your favourite element of Iron Bank 2, what would it be and why?

I have grown to really love the expanding wilds free spins. The change we made so that the multipliers help now really makes it spicy!

Finally, can you give us an insight into what we’re going to see from Relax Gaming this year?

Without giving too much away, we are working on some really cool new games based on some of our existing ones that I think players will be very excited to see. Q1 has been a bumper start to the year with plenty of big releases, and the momentum will continue throughout 2026. We are also going to work to bring more exciting ways for players to interact with our games with alternative bet options - so watch this space!
